Connect With a Peer

What is Peer-to-Peer Listening?

We are excited to partner with HearMe to offer on-demand peer support for the widowed community. The HearMe app provides a flexible and accessible option for men and women who may be struggling with life after loss, financial questions, or just need an ear to listen.

This is a first. For men and women who have lost a life partner – almost 7% of the U.S. population – there is a way to connect with others who have walked the same path, confidentially and anonymously. Wings for Widows will offer three distinct topics: WidowTalk for widow support, WidowerTalk for widower support, and FinancialTalk for help anyone with personal finance questions.

Download the app today. The HearMe app gives widowed persons the ability to text with a trained peer listener who has shared experience in real-time 24/7, whenever you need to connect with someone in a safe place.

What is Peer Support?

Product image homepage

Our peer listeners come from all walks of life but what they all share is a deep empathy for others who are navigating life after loss.

We provide comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure that our peer listeners are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to give back to others. Peer support is not therapy and you do not need to be certified to volunteer as a peer listener.

Together, we can support each other through the difficult journey of loss and find hope and healing in the process.

How It Works

Let’s get you the app and get you connected. Please watch the video to learn how to download the app, set up your account, and get you connected for your first conversation.

1. Download the app

  • Download the app from your Apple or Google Play App Store.

2. Create your account
  • Open the app and click the “Get Started” button.
  • Choose from the “Continue with Email,” “Continue with Google,” or “Continue with Apple” option. When choosing, “continue with email,” you will need to select “Don’t have an account?” on the sign-in page to create your account.
  • Add your first name when directed to complete sign-up (you can use an alias if you like).

3. Choose your subscription

  • Once you’re in the app, you will need to choose your subscription plan.
  • The selected subscription will be highlighted teal. Tap on the one you would like and click the “Start trial and subscribe” button.

4. Find a Listener

  • When you’re ready, select the “Find a Listener” button on the home screen to choose your topic and start texting with a Listener! In addition to the Wings for Widows topics (WidowTalk, WidowerTalk, and WidowFinance), you will have access to many other topics, as well.
5. Log your mood
  • Log your mood and share a bit more about how you’re feeling if you’d like. You will be connected with a Listener in minutes.

6. Chat with your Listener

  • Chat with your Listener for however long you need. You can end the chat and provide feedback at any time.

7. Connect with the same Listener

  • After ending the chat and rating your experience, you will be prompted to request a “dedicated chat” to connect with your Listener again in the future.
  • Once accepted by the Listener, you can go back and chat anytime in the chat menu.
  • Dedicated chats are indicated by the purple chat icon.
